Dubai’s public parking operator Parkin has announced that it will commence variable parking fees at the event areas starting February 17. The new fees revised charges for heavy events and cost Dh25 per hour for any action at such announcement venues.
The parking operator issued a notice recently on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), telling its visitors to event zones to plan for using public transport as parking services can become pricy and fewer in number around these areas. The area surrounding the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) has been labelled as a “Grand Event Zone” and will undergo major changes with this announcement.
This follows the announcement earlier this month that the operator would be increasing parking tariffs in all Zone F areas. There is no longer a popular area such as Al Sufouh 2, The Knowledge Village, Dubai Media City, and Dubai Internet City. All these areas have now been brought to higher parking rates because of their business activities.
The new parking fee for event venues is intended to cap demand on peak event days as well as encourage people to find alternative transportation options in these high-traffic areas. The Dubai government has encouraged the need for sustainable travel choices and reduction of congestion during significant events, and all this together forms part of a bigger master plan to make it efficient and accessible for people in the city’s transport system.
That means organizing a good program around how to ensure that the parking charge is directed to popular venues surrounding the Dubai World Trade Centre and other event locations. These should make the average visitor plan ahead in life and perhaps think about using taxis, ride-sharing services, or public transit to get there.
