Oman suspends visa issue, advice travellers to leave country

Countries around the world are increasingly adapting measures in an attempt to halt the spread of the new coronavirus. Oman in latest developments has urged tourists who are currently in Oman to leave and return to their home countries due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Oman’s Ministry of Tourism has called on travel and tourism agencies as well as hotel establishments to advise tourist groups to leave the Sultanate and return to their countries due to uncertainty of coronavirus.

Oman Wednesday announced halting all public transport, the latest move to contain the spread of the coronavirus in the country.

The restriction includes buses, microbuses and ferry boats except for buses and boats plying to and from the governorate of Musandam and the Masirah Island, Oman’s news agency reported. The ban will take effect beginning Thursday until further notice, it added.

“This comes out of keenness on safety of public transport users and workers against the spread of the new coronavirus,” the Transport Ministry said.

The total number of cases registered in the Oman is 33, of which 29 are travel-related. Of these, 12 cases have recovered so far.
