TikTok joins messaging showground with new group chat aspect

In the unprecedented wave of diversification, Tiktok – the video-sharing app belonging to the ByteDance company – has leaped into the messaging space as it has introduced group chats to its application.

As reported by TechCrunch, this places it right in competition with Meta’s WhatsApp and Apple’s Messages.

A new addition allows users of TikTok to make discussion groups that can have up to 32 people to chat and/or share content.

Its new feature works just as people sometimes share TikTok videos in group chats with one another but within the application itself.

In TikTok, its group chats are shown and this enumerates the application’s intentions of turning its platform into a communication ground for friends unlike being an entertainment platform for interaction with strangers.

TikTok group chat rules

It is however worth noting that, just like individual messages, the groups and chat centers are only allowed for people with at least 15 years and above, with extra measures of protection for the 16 to 17 years’ persons.

Further to this, the application only allows any person to invite other persons such as the teen to the group chat if they both follow each other.

If a teen receives an invitation to become a member of a group chat they will only be able to join one that has at least one contact they share.

Moreover, if a teen seeks to create a group chat, TikTok will need approval of who else may join the chat.

Do you want to know how to make a new chat?

Join the TikTok house and you will be able to create a group chat in an instant.

To make a new group chat, click on “Chat”, which is written at the top of the page in the “Inbox” section, and, then, choose “More options”.

Subsequently, you are given a list of the friends you may wish to include in the group and when you have made your choice, you click on the tab that says ‘Start group chat.’

If you wish to open a group through an invite, you can tap on the invite, and then click on ‘Join group’.

TikTok also recently revealed that it is to start testing customized stickers for DM, an idea that the platform seems to enjoy as yet another fun chat feature with an emphasis on users creating and uploading new customized stickers for everybody to enjoy.
