Prayer times by emirate

Why times differ between emirates

Prayer times follow the sun, so the further east you are, the earlier they start. Fujairah on the east coast usually prays several minutes before Abu Dhabi, while Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman are within a minute or two of each other.

The five daily prayers

Muslims pray five times a day at times set by the position of the sun. Fajr is the dawn prayer, before sunrise. Dhuhr is just after the sun passes its highest point. Asr is in the afternoon, when shadows have grown longer. Maghrib is just after sunset, and Isha is in the evening once twilight has gone. Sunrise is shown in the table only as the point when Fajr time ends.

How prayer times change through the year in the UAE

Because the days are longer in summer, Fajr comes much earlier and Maghrib much later in June than in January. In Dubai, Fajr is around 4 am in mid-summer and around 5:40 am in mid-winter, while Maghrib moves from about 7:15 pm in June to about 5:40 pm in December. The changes are gradual, usually a minute or less per day, which is why it helps to check the table each day rather than relying on last week’s times.

Friday prayer across the UAE

Friday prayer is held at a fixed time of 12:45 pm in mosques across all seven emirates. The time was unified when the UAE moved to a Saturday–Sunday weekend, and it has been 12:45 pm since January 2023. The khutbah, the Friday sermon, is kept short, but mosques fill up quickly, so arriving 10 to 15 minutes early is a good idea.

Where to pray when you are out

Every UAE mall has prayer rooms for men and women, usually near the parking levels or food courts, with places for wudu (ablution). Airports, major metro stations, hospitals and many offices also have prayer rooms. On highways, petrol stations often have a small mosque or musalla next to them. Mosques open shortly before each prayer and many stay open between Maghrib and Isha.

Prayer times in Ramadan

The prayer times themselves do not change in Ramadan, but daily life is built around them. Suhoor ends at Imsak, a few minutes before Fajr, and the fast is broken at Maghrib. Taraweeh prayers are held after Isha in mosques across the country, and in the last ten nights many mosques also hold Qiyam prayers after midnight. Working hours are usually shortened for the month, and the official reduced hours are announced by the government shortly before Ramadan begins.

Official sources

The General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments and Zakat publishes the official UAE prayer timetable and runs an app with times for every emirate. The times on this page are calculated with the same method, so they should match the official timetable within a minute or two.

Frequently asked questions

What time is Maghrib in Dubai today?

Today’s Maghrib time for Dubai is shown in the table above, together with Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr and Isha. For other emirates, open the city links below.

Which calculation method does the UAE use for prayer times?

The UAE uses the method of the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments (Awqaf). All times on this page are calculated with that method.

Why are prayer times different in each emirate?

Prayer times follow the position of the sun, so places further east pray earlier. Fujairah on the east coast is usually several minutes ahead of Abu Dhabi, while Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman are within a minute or two of each other.

Is the iqama time the same as the adhan time?

No. The times here are adhan times. Mosques usually hold the iqama (start of the congregational prayer) a few minutes later, and the gap varies by prayer and mosque.

Do prayer times change during Ramadan?

The prayer times themselves do not change. During Ramadan, Imsak (when the fast begins) is a few minutes before Fajr, and Iftar is at Maghrib.

What time is Jummah prayer in Dubai and the UAE?

Friday prayer (Jummah) is held at 12:45 PM across the UAE. The time was unified for all emirates when the country moved to its Saturday-Sunday weekend in 2022.

When does Maghrib time end?

Maghrib time runs from sunset until the start of Isha. In the UAE that is roughly 1 hour 15 minutes, so you can see the end time by looking at today’s Isha time in the table.

What is the difference between Asr and Asr (Hanafi)?

Most of the UAE follows the standard Asr time, when an object’s shadow equals its length. The Hanafi school starts Asr later, when the shadow is twice the object’s length, so we show both times in the table.

Is Fajr time the same as Suhoor time during Ramadan?

Suhoor should end before Fajr begins. Many calendars show Imsak about 10 minutes before Fajr as a safe point to stop eating.
