What to expect this time of year

The UAE has two seasons in practice: a long, hot and humid summer from roughly May to September, and a mild, sunny winter from November to March when daytime temperatures sit in the mid-20s. Inland areas such as Al Ain are drier and see bigger swings between day and night, while coastal cities stay more humid.

Staying safe in the heat and in fog

  • In summer, avoid outdoor activity between noon and 4 PM, carry water and never leave children or pets in a parked car.
  • Morning fog is common on the coast in the cooler months; slow down, keep your distance and use low beams.
  • Follow the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) for official warnings during rain or dust storms.

The UAE through the year

The UAE has two main seasons. From around November to March the weather is warm and pleasant, with daytime temperatures in the mid-20s to around 30°C on the coast and cooler nights, especially in the desert and the mountains. From May to September it is very hot, with daytime highs often above 40°C and high humidity on the coast. April and October are the transition months, when the heat builds up or starts to ease.

January and February are usually the coolest months. Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah, the UAE’s highest peak, can drop to single figures and occasionally near freezing. July and August are the hottest months, and inland areas such as Al Ain and Liwa can be several degrees hotter than Dubai and Abu Dhabi during the day.

Why it feels hotter than the number

On the coast, humidity often reaches 70% or more on summer mornings and evenings. Humid air stops sweat from evaporating, so 38°C with high humidity can feel hotter than 44°C in the dry desert. When you plan outdoor activities, look at the humidity as well as the temperature in the cards above: early mornings in summer are cooler but often the most humid time of day.

Fog, dust and rain

Fog is most common on winter and early-autumn mornings, when it can cut visibility on roads to a few hundred metres within minutes. Dust and sandstorms are linked to strong northwesterly winds, known as the shamal, which are most frequent in spring and early summer. Rain is rare and usually falls between November and March, but when it comes it can be heavy, with flooding on roads and in underpasses.

Where official warnings come from

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) issues the UAE’s official forecasts and colour-coded alerts: yellow means be aware, orange means be prepared and red means take action. Police in each emirate also announce speed limit changes during fog and send alerts to phones in severe weather. If schools or workplaces change their hours because of weather, the announcement comes from the authorities, so follow official channels rather than forwarded messages.

The summer midday break

Every summer, from 15 June to 15 September, the UAE bans outdoor work in direct sunlight between 12:30 pm and 3 pm. Companies must give outdoor workers shade and water during this period. If you see the rule being broken, it can be reported to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE).

Frequently asked questions

What is the weather in Dubai today?

The Dubai card at the top of this page shows the current temperature, sky and humidity, plus the highs and lows for the next three days. It refreshes every 30 minutes.

What is the best time to visit the UAE?

November to March is the most comfortable time, with daytime temperatures of about 24–30°C and little rain. It is also the season for outdoor events, desert trips and beach days.

Which is the hottest month in the UAE?

July and August are the hottest months, when daytime highs often pass 45°C inland and humidity on the coast makes it feel even hotter.

When does it rain in the UAE?

Rain is rare and mostly falls between November and March, often as short but heavy storms. Follow the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) for official warnings.

Why is Al Ain hotter by day and cooler at night than Dubai?

Al Ain is inland and drier, away from the sea’s moderating effect, so it heats up more in the day and cools down more at night than the coastal cities.

Will it rain in the UAE today?

Check the cards at the top of this page: if rain is expected in an emirate, it shows in that city’s sky description. For live alerts and storm warnings, follow the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), which issues the official forecasts.

When does the weather cool down in Dubai?

Temperatures usually start easing in late October, and November is when most people feel the change, with days in the low 30s and cooler evenings. December to February is the coolest stretch of the year.

Does the UAE use cloud seeding to make it rain?

Yes. The UAE runs a cloud seeding programme through the National Centre of Meteorology, sending aircraft to seed suitable clouds to encourage rain. It can increase rainfall from existing clouds but cannot create rain on a clear day.

Is November a good time to visit Dubai?

Yes. November marks the start of the pleasant season, with warm sunny days, cooler nights and outdoor attractions such as Global Village and beach clubs in full swing.
