The Automobile and Touring Club of the UAE offers a similar setup, both online and over the counter. Their listed fee sits at Dh170 plus VAT. Online applications typically take up to three working days to process, with delivery adding up to five more. Walk in and apply at the counter instead, though, and it’s usually done within half an hour.
Notably, GDRFA hasn’t specified what this new five-minute airport service will actually cost. That detail’s still missing from the official announcement.
Why Put It At The Airport, Specifically?
Because that’s exactly where the need shows up. Authorities were direct about the reasoning here, placing the service at DXB means travellers can secure their IDP right as they’re preparing for international travel, rather than needing to complete the process separately days or weeks in advance.
Major General Khalaf Ahmed Al Ghaith, Assistant Director-General for Entry Permits and Residency, framed it this way: “At GDRFA Dubai, we are keen to ensure that the customer journey is an integral part of the smart travel ecosystem, through proactive services delivered at the right place and time.”
He added that the launch “embodies effective government integration and reflects Dubai’s readiness to provide flexible solutions that make travel easier and strengthen confidence in the overall services system.”
Ahmed Mahboob, CEO of the Licensing Agency at the RTA, echoed similar sentiment, calling the initiative “an advanced model of cooperation between government entities and strategic partners,” and noting that round-the-clock availability at one of Dubai’s busiest locations would meaningfully improve the overall customer experience.
The Bigger Picture
This isn’t an isolated move, either. It fits into a broader pattern of Dubai shifting government services toward locations where residents naturally already are, rather than expecting people to make dedicated trips to access them.
