Five hundred invitations. Five sectors. One day to help decide where Dubai goes next. HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai’s Crown Prince, has asked 500 professionals to take part in Dubai Future Week. The event runs from November 18 to 21 at the Museum of the Future and Emirates Towers.
He announced it on X, along with a logo carrying the words “Dubai Shapers.”
Why These 500 People?
His message was short and direct: “We want them to be our partners in advancing Mohammed bin Rashid’s vision for Dubai, which places people at the heart of our objectives and priorities.”
Notice the word partners. These aren’t guests at a conference. They’ve been asked to contribute.
Sheikh Hamdan put the wider thinking this way: “Dubai believes that shaping the future is a shared responsibility. It requires collective effort, and our ultimate goal is to build a better future for humanity.”
Who Made The List?
The invitations are split evenly across five groups, with 100 people in each:
Teachers. Frontline responders. Homegrown entrepreneurs. Economy and finance professionals. Urban planners and architects.
It’s an interesting spread. Some of these people build the city, some teach its children, some run its businesses, and some respond when things go wrong. Each group sees Dubai from a different angle, and that’s probably the point.

What Will They Actually Do?
They’ll take part through 500 Future Minds, one of the eight core concepts of Dubai Future Week.
It’s a one-day experience. Participants work through future scenarios specific to their own sectors and look at how emerging technologies and broader shifts could reshape their jobs. Then comes the harder part: naming priorities, ideas and commitments that could feed into Dubai’s direction in the years ahead.
So the output isn’t a panel discussion. It’s a set of commitments.
The Bigger Event Around It
Dubai Future Week runs under the theme “For the Human of the Future” and expects more than 10,000 participants across its four days.
The human focus runs through the whole programme. It explores the future through five questions:
How We’ll Live. How We’ll Think. How We’ll Innovate. How We’ll Feel. How We’ll Do Business.
Only one of those is about business. The others are about people, which tells you where the emphasis sits.
Whether the 500 Future Minds session leads to visible change is something we’ll only learn later. But asking a teacher, a paramedic and an urban planner into the same process is a different approach from the usual executive-heavy forum.
Our Take
Government forums usually follow a familiar script: executives on stage, polished slides, a handshake photo. This one breaks from it by inviting people who rarely get a seat at that table. A teacher, a paramedic and an urban planner will sit in the same process, and that’s unusual.
The real test comes afterwards. A one-day session can produce excellent ideas, but “commitments” only mean something if they’re tracked. If Dubai publishes what came out of 500 Future Minds, and later shows which ideas went anywhere, this becomes a model other cities copy. If it doesn’t, it risks being remembered for the logo.
Early days. But it’s worth watching.
Pro Tip
Not among the 500? You can still follow the event. Check Dubai Future Week’s official channels ahead of November 18 for programme updates and any public sessions. Details like these tend to change as the dates get closer.
If you do plan to visit, skip the car. Sheikh Zayed Road gets congested during major events, and the Emirates Towers area is easy to reach by Metro.
