Eid Al Etihad closes out the UAE’s 2026 holiday calendar, and with a bit of smart planning, two days off can stretch into more than a week away from your desk. Whether you’ve got one leave day left or three, there’s a version of this that works.
What The Official Break Looks Like
National Day is a two-day public holiday, falling on December 2 and 3 for both public and private sectors. This year, that’s a Wednesday and Thursday.
That midweek placement is the awkward part. It breaks up the week without giving you a proper long weekend, which is exactly why leave planning matters.
There’s a wrinkle, though. Under Cabinet Resolution No. 27 of 2024, the Cabinet can move certain public holidays to the start or end of the week through an official decision. Eid holidays are excluded from this, but National Day isn’t. If the dates shift, residents could end up with a four-day break once the weekend is factored in, no leave needed.
Nothing’s confirmed on that front yet. So the options below assume the holiday stays put on Wednesday and Thursday.

One Day Of Leave: A Five-Day Break
Short on leave? Take Friday, December 4.
That links the two public holidays, your leave day, and the weekend into one stretch, Wednesday, December 2 through Sunday, December 6. Five days off for the price of one. If you’ve burned through most of your annual leave already, this is the efficient play.

Two Days Of Leave: A Six-Day Break
Take Monday, November 30 and Tuesday, December 1.
Add the weekend before and the two holidays, and you’re off from Saturday, November 28 through Thursday, December 3. Back at work Friday, December 4, assuming a standard Monday-to-Friday week.
Six days. A solid break, though you do return just before the weekend, which has its own appeal.
Three Days Of Leave: The Full Nine Days
Here’s the big one. Take Monday, November 30, Tuesday, December 1, and Friday, December 4. That wraps the first weekend, two leave days, both National Day holidays, a third leave day, and the second weekend into one unbroken run.
Saturday, November 28 to Sunday, December 6. Nine consecutive days, three of them costing you leave.
It’s the best return on annual leave you’ll get all year, and it lands right before the year winds down. Hard to argue with that.
Before You Book Anything
Don’t lock in flights first. Check your company’s leave policy and submit your request through the official channel, ideally early. Employers can have operational needs that affect approvals, and National Day is a popular window. Everyone else is eyeing the same dates.
Worth remembering, too: public holidays are separate paid days off, while annual leave comes from your entitlement under UAE Labour Law.
And keep one caveat in mind. These dates are based on the current calendar and aren’t final. The official word on holiday dates will come from the relevant UAE government departments for both sectors, so wait for that announcement before committing to anything non-refundable.
