This year is simpler. Almost every private school in the country, whatever the curriculum, is breaking up on the same day.

Why the dates are the same this year
The 2026-27 calendar is part of the unified academic calendar the Ministry of Education issued for the next three years. According to Gulf News, it sets winter break from 14 December 2026 to 3 January 2027 for most public and private schools. Dubai’s regulator, KHDA, has published individual school calendars that follow the same window. Sharjah’s authority uses the same dates, and the Abu Dhabi school calendars we checked match too.
The break is also shorter than last year. In 2025, students had four weeks off, from 8 December to 4 January. This time it is three weeks.
Indian-curriculum schools: no October break, so this is the first long holiday
Indian schools in Dubai run from April to March, so they skipped the October mid-term break that other schools took. The published calendar for April-start schools confirms their winter break also begins on 14 December, with classes back on 4 January 2027. For many families, that makes this the first proper holiday since the summer.
The Indian High School in Garhoud, for example, lists 14 December 2026 to 3 January 2027 as its winter break on its own calendar, and an Abu Dhabi CBSE school we checked shows the same dates.
Sharjah private schools
Sharjah has its own regulator, the Sharjah Private Education Authority, so its calendar is published separately. This year it matches the rest of the country. SPEA’s 2026-27 calendar starts winter break on 14 December 2026, and students return on 4 January 2027.
Where your school could still be different
- Teachers: staff often return a few days before students for training days.
- Exam years: British schools with mock exams may schedule them right before or after the break.
- Extra days off: some schools add a day around National Day on 2 and 3 December, which is before the winter break.
- Smaller curricula: schools offering French, German or other national curricula can set different term dates.

Planning around the break
Three weeks is enough for a trip home, but flights on the first weekend of the break tend to be expensive, so book early. And if you want a break earlier, the National Day long weekend falls on 2 and 3 December.
