Saudi Arabia end of service calculator
For private-sector employees. Enter your last salary and your dates.
An estimate based on Articles 84 and 85 of the Saudi Labor Law. Your employer's final settlement may differ, for example if your contract gives more, if allowances are counted differently, or if you work in government or a free zone with its own rules.
How the end of service award is calculated
Under Article 84 of the Saudi Labor Law, a private-sector employee is entitled to an end of service award based on their last wage:
- Half a month’s wage for each of the first five years
- A full month’s wage for each year after five years
- Part of a year counts pro rata
The wage used is usually the basic salary plus housing allowance, but check your contract: some employers and courts include other fixed allowances too.
What happens if you resign
Article 85 reduces the award when the employee resigns:
- Less than 2 years of service: no award
- 2 to 5 years: one third of the award
- 5 to 10 years: two thirds
- 10 years or more: the full award
There is no cut if the contract simply ends or the employer ends it. Article 87 also gives the full award to an employee who leaves because of force majeure, and to a female employee who resigns within six months of marrying or three months of giving birth.
Worked example
Ahmed earns SAR 10,000 a month (basic plus housing) and leaves after 7 years.
- First 5 years: 5 × half a month = 2.5 months = SAR 25,000
- Next 2 years: 2 × one month = SAR 20,000
- Full award: SAR 45,000. If he resigned, he would get two thirds: SAR 30,000
When it must be paid
Under Article 88 the employer must pay all dues within one week if the employer ended the contract, or within two weeks if the employee ended it. If it isn’t paid, you can file a claim with the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, which tries an amicable settlement first and then refers the case to the labour courts.
Frequently asked questions
How much end of service will I get after 5 years in Saudi Arabia?
After 5 years you have earned 2.5 months’ wage: half a month for each year. If you resign at that point you get one third of it, and if you resign after 5 but before 10 years you get two thirds.
Is end of service calculated on basic salary or total salary in Saudi Arabia?
On the last wage. In practice most employers use basic salary plus housing allowance, and some include other fixed allowances. Your contract and payslips show what counts.
Do I get end of service if I resign before 2 years?
No. An employee who resigns with less than 2 years of service is not entitled to an end of service award, unless one of the Article 87 exceptions applies.
Do I lose part of my award if my employer ends my contract?
No. The reductions apply only when you resign. If the contract ends or the employer terminates it, you get the full award, unless you were dismissed for one of the serious reasons in Article 80.
How long does my employer have to pay?
One week from the end of the contract if the employer ended it, or two weeks if you resigned.
